5 Tips For Dressing Postpartum

A lot of women buy maternity clothes, thinking that they only last for the nine months of pregnancy. The truth is that your body stays pregnant-looking for quite a while following your birth. You won’t magically fit into your old jeans and T-shirts despite how much you might hope that’s the case.

Since your body is not quite pregnant but not quite its normal self anymore either, it can be confusing trying to find the right clothing to wear. Take a look at some of the best tips for looking your best despite having just given birth.

Loose T-Shirts

T-shirts are very forgiving when it comes to your postpartum body. They hide pooches that you may not necessarily want people to look at. The best part about T-shirts is that they can be worn in all sorts of ways. You can wear a T-shirt with a pair of jeans, a skirt, or even overalls. There’s pretty much nothing you can’t wear a T-shirt with!

High Waisted Jeggings

Yes, you heard that right—keep your jeans put away until you’re at least a few months postpartum. Jeggings are the way to go since they allow your stomach to expand and are much more flattering, not to mention easier to move around in.

Make sure that they are high-waisted since you don’t need your stomach hanging over your pants. Tight jeans with little elasticity are not very flattering, and they’re certainly not very comfortable.

Long Sweaters

Long sweaters are great for hiding your hips that you may not necessarily love right now.  Since during pregnancy, your hips can stretch out a considerable amount, long sweaters can hide them while you’re adjusting to your new curves. Not only that, but if your baby was born in the winter, warm fuzzy sweaters are the only way to go. Feeling cozy post-birth is all about wearing fuzzy and comfortable clothing items like long sweaters.

Wear Nursing Bras

Nursing bras are an important part of postpartum since chances are you’ll be nursing pretty much all the time. Treat yourself to a few different kinds of shapes and models. Get one for sleeping, one for daytime, and one for dresses. You’ll thank yourself that you have a few different options to choose from.

Heels

Heels are the way to go when it comes to elongating your body.  If you have to choose between flats or heels; always choose heels since they are thinning. Although they may not always be the most practical, heels are a great way to feel sexy, attractive, and fun during a time when you may not feel exactly your best. Above all, have fun and don’t be afraid to take risks!
